About PozKit

The NYSDOH AIDS Institute’s HIV Quality of Care Program is pleased to offer PozKit, the very first online Prevention with Positives (PwP) toolkit for HIV/AIDS clinicians in New York State. PozKit is part of our ongoing effort to provide HIV providers with valuable resources to help prevent new HIV infections, as well as protect New York State’s HIV-infected population from superinfection and STIs.

The toolkit’s origins lie in a PwP quality improvement (QI) campaign launched by the AIDS Institute’s HIV Quality of Care Program in January 2005. Approximately 100 facilities conducted QI prevention projects and consumer prevention surveys. In October 2009, program staff followed up with facilities to identify those projects that had remained in place and yielded effective PwP strategies. The results of these QI efforts demonstrated the clear need for a resource that would provide NYS HIV/AIDS clinicians with PwP materials at their fingertips. A PwP subcommittee comprised of clinicians and consumers from the Quality of Care Program recommended the development of a clinician PwP toolkit in February 2010.

Since then, under the guidance of the Office of the Medical Director, NYS HIV Quality of Care and Consumer Advisory Committees, PozKit provides clinicians with a centralized, easy-to-access website featuring current and valuable Prevention with Positives resources. Available information and tools cover topics such as suggested screening questions, motivational interviewing tips, quick reference guides, and links to other internet resources. The toolkit also addresses current prevention concerns, such as “safe –sex fatigue” and provides important links to resources on retention and care.

We hope PozKit will serve as a useful resource in your clinical practice and enthusiastically welcome any comments or suggestions you may have to improve PozKit.
