How To Submit Best Practices
October 2007
Definition of Best Practices: Best practices are examples of practical strategies and creative solutions which address issues related to implementation of HIV clinical guidelines. These strategies and solutions lead to more effective delivery of appropriate HIV clinical care.
Best practice examples can cover a wide variety of topics including:
- increasing patient access to clinical or preventive service, including provision of co-located services,
- facilitating patient adherence to appointments, follow-up visits or activities, or to medication,
- increasing patient knowledge and access to information,
- engaging or empowering patients to be more involved in monitoring their own care,
- special activities to promote awareness of core services;
- developing and using clinical information systems,
- utilizing staff resources more effectively,
- facilitating documentation through improved tools,
- working with physical resources, including space allocations and arrangement, and
- addressing special needs such as child care, transportation, housing, and language.
Objective: The AIDS Institute’s objective with respect to this initiative is to solicit examples of best practices relating to topics covered in existing best practice documents or to be covered in upcoming best practice documents. These best practice documents can be used for the following purposes:
- to share information in order to learn from other sites or adopt new practices,
- to update best practice documents currently on the website,
- for future print versions of best practice documents,
- to catalog on the website for perusal by individuals representing facilities interested in learning about successful strategies employed at similar sites.
Format: The format of best practices will generally be short narratives. Submissions should generally focus on one issue and describe one or a small combination of strategies used to improve service delivery or remove a barrier, as opposed to success stories which will be more elaborate, contain data, and describe a process over time as in a story board presentation.
